“Bartokosmos rised up from the bewitching kosmos created by Béla Bártok, where we lost ourselves in for two years, working as its magical dimension was our native element and finding us being in tune with his music in a very special way.
First, we were influenced reading Bártok’s biography: his musical scores clearly bear the signs of a troubled life, spent in a time of war, social transformations and political revolvement, as well as the memory of Hungarian folk music. Day by day, his bare but melodical music, his quick but expressive and obscure writing have revealed us how modern his language is, how topical too. Bringing all these qualities to our daily lives, no matter how different from his, our Bártok came to be almost punk.
Delving deeper in the magmatic world of Mikrokosmos, short piano exercises composed for his son, we selected those melodical lines which are more sympathetic with our feeling for sound, music and language, then, through complete respect for the original score, we tried to draw-wide, dark and electrical visions. This is Bartokosmos: ten panels, a properly eight-handed musical project, the work of a quartet far from main character and showing-off quirk. Music as a structure is the ruler and the musicians is a servant, a function, taking part of the whole, flowing from our instruments, altogether sound.”
